Lizzo Shares Series of Fun Backstage Snaps with Harry Styles After His First Grammy Win

PEOPLE.COM: Harry Styles and Lizzo are true friendship goals.

During the 63rd annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, the superstars reunited backstage just after Styles, 27, won his first-ever Grammy for best pop solo performance for his hit track, “Watermelon Sugar.”

Lizzo, who won the category last year for “Truth Hurts,” shared two photos on Instagram of the pair posing together backstage celebrating Styles’ victory.

“HARRY WON A GRAMMY !!!! @harrystyles,” the “Good as Hell” songstress captioned the post.

Styles and Lizzo have been pals for several years now. In 2019, the former One Direction member covered Lizzo’s “Juice” in BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.

Lizzo took note of Styles’ cover on her Instagram Story at the time, sharing the clip and writing, “This is so cute @harrystyles ily.”

Then in January 2020, Styles joined Lizzo for an exciting performance of the hit song during a SiriusXM and Pandora Super Bowl Opening Drive Super Concert Series performance in Miami.

On Sunday, Styles beat out fellow nominees Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa and Taylor Swift to win his first gramophone for “Watermelon Sugar.”

“This was the first song we wrote after my first album came out during a day off in Nashville, and I just want to say thank you to Tom, Tyler and Mitch … Rob Stringer and everyone at Columbia,” he said during his acceptance speech. “My manager, Jeffrey, who has always nudged me to be better and never pushed me.”

Notably celebrating Styles’ win was his fellow category nominee and ex-girlfriend Swift, 31, who stood up and applauded for him, smiling and nodding in his direction.

The Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, aired Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS Television Network and Paramount+.

Lizzo uses Billboard Music Awards little black dress to send strong message about presidential election

METRO.CO.UK: Lizzo used her red carpet look at the Billboard Music Awards 2020 to deliver a simple political message. Celebrities often use their moment in the spotlight at awards shows to speak on social issues they care about, and the BBMAs on Wednesday night were no exception.

The Juice singer, who recently walked the runway at Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty show, arrived at MGM Grand Las Vegas looking incredible in her little black dress which she teamed with a high ponytail and jewelled earrings. All over her outfit, which was custom Christian Siriano, the word ‘Vote’ was printed in huge white capital letters.

Her nails were painted black to match her look, with ‘Vote’ painted onto her ring finger which she held up for the cameras. Lizzo, real name Melissa Jefferson, didn’t go home empty handed as she took home the top song sales artist award.

In her passionate acceptance speech she urged her fans to, you guessed it, vote in the upcoming presidential election in November. “I just wanted to say I’ve been thinking abut suppression and the voices that refused to be suppressed, and I wonder would I be standing here right now if it weren’t for the big Black women who refused to have their voices be suppressed”, the Good As Hell singer said. “I just wanted to say right now if you are at home watching this and you are thinking about changing yourself to feel worthy, this is your sign to remain true to who you are.

“Lemme tell y’all something: When people try to suppress something, it’s normally because that thing holds power. They’re afraid of your power. There’s power in who you are. There’s power in your voice. ‘So whether it’s through music, protest, or your right to vote, use your power, use your voice, and refuse to be suppressed. Thank you so much to Billboard. I love y’all. God bless, y’all.”

Lizzo Receives 11 Billboard Music Awards Nominations

HOUSTONIAMAG.COM: Lizzo received 11 Billboard Music Award nominations yesterday, including Top New Artist, Top Female Artist, and Top Hot 100 Song (for “Truth Hurts”).

If she wins Top New Artist, the “Good as Hell” singer would be “the first female artist to win in this category since Lorde in 2014,” according to Billboard, which released its 2020 nominations Tuesday. Similarly, if Lizzo nabs Top Hot 100 Song, it’ll be the first time a female artist has taken home the award since Meghan Trainor won in 2015 for “All About That Bass.”

And speaking of the Top Hot 100 Song nom, “Truth Hurts” received a lot more love. The song, which was released in 2017 but didn’t explode into fame until last year, got three other nods itself: Top Selling Song, Top Radio Song, and Top Rap Song. But Billboard didn’t forget about Lizzo’s other hits. “Good as Hell” was nominated for Top R&B Song.

“I just wanna thank God,” Lizzo wrote on Instagram yesterday, along with a list of her nominations. “And thank YOU.”

Lizzo isn’t the only Houston-raised star to get Billboard nods this year. Megan Thee Stallion got a nom for Top Rap Female Artist. Travis Scott racked in nominations for Top Streaming Songs Artist and Top Rap Tour, fitting for the man who launched the Astroworld Festival in 2018 and played there again last fall. And, of course, Beyoncé received a Top R&B Album nod for “Homecoming: The Live Album.” She’s also up against Lizzo and Life on Earth singer Summer Walker for Top R&B Female Artist—we’ll all be biting our nails on this one.

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards will take place October 14.
