Lizzo Receives 11 Billboard Music Awards Nominations

HOUSTONIAMAG.COM: Lizzo received 11 Billboard Music Award nominations yesterday, including Top New Artist, Top Female Artist, and Top Hot 100 Song (for “Truth Hurts”).

If she wins Top New Artist, the “Good as Hell” singer would be “the first female artist to win in this category since Lorde in 2014,” according to Billboard, which released its 2020 nominations Tuesday. Similarly, if Lizzo nabs Top Hot 100 Song, it’ll be the first time a female artist has taken home the award since Meghan Trainor won in 2015 for “All About That Bass.”

And speaking of the Top Hot 100 Song nom, “Truth Hurts” received a lot more love. The song, which was released in 2017 but didn’t explode into fame until last year, got three other nods itself: Top Selling Song, Top Radio Song, and Top Rap Song. But Billboard didn’t forget about Lizzo’s other hits. “Good as Hell” was nominated for Top R&B Song.

“I just wanna thank God,” Lizzo wrote on Instagram yesterday, along with a list of her nominations. “And thank YOU.”

Lizzo isn’t the only Houston-raised star to get Billboard nods this year. Megan Thee Stallion got a nom for Top Rap Female Artist. Travis Scott racked in nominations for Top Streaming Songs Artist and Top Rap Tour, fitting for the man who launched the Astroworld Festival in 2018 and played there again last fall. And, of course, Beyoncé received a Top R&B Album nod for “Homecoming: The Live Album.” She’s also up against Lizzo and Life on Earth singer Summer Walker for Top R&B Female Artist—we’ll all be biting our nails on this one.

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards will take place October 14.

Lizzo celebrates Juneteenth with silent auction/raffle: ‘Let’s make change together’

EW.COM: Have you ever wanted to own a custom vase in the shape of Lizzo’s booty? You’re in luck! The singer is celebrating Juneteenth by hosting a silent auction and raffle, encouraging her fans to “give black to Black organizations and businesses” in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

On Friday, Lizzo shared a video on Instagram that showed her posing nude, covered up by her long hair, as she revealed the details around her event.

“Go to LizzoLovesYou.com to sign up to have an interactive experience with me — whether virtual or on the road, depending on the future of COVID — and also participate in a silent auction with some of my favorite people and artists,” she said. The auction will include items from other artists like Missy Elliott and Janelle Monáe — including the iconic “vagina pants” worn by Monáe in her “PYNK” music video.

Plus, fans can also donate a minimum of $10 to be entered into a drawing to win a trip to hang out with Lizzo backstage at an upcoming concert and get “the full Lizzo Big Grrrl treatment.” (Donations will support Minneapolis Sanctuary Movement, Black Church Food Security Network, Black Women Speak, and HeadCount.)

“I’ll fly you to one of my concerts (dates and locations TBD) and put you up in a sexy hotel. You can even learn some of the Big Grrrl moves and dance with us at soundcheck,” Lizzo wrote on her website. “You’ll get VIP seats OR watch from backstage with your BIG GRRRL All Access Tour Pass. And since I don’t know when these concerts will be scheduled just yet, I’ll video call you and some of your friends so we can kick it virtually in the meantime.”

As for that booty vase? “Plus, I’ll throw in something truly personal: a one of a kind custom vase in the shape of my booty,” Lizzo wrote. “Thank you for supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, Black businesses and these incredible organizations. Change is coming let’s make change together.”

MARIECLAIRE.COM: Quay (pronounced as key) eyewear is known for collaborating with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, and its latest partner is someone we all know: Lizzo. The singer has teamed up with the brand to create a line of eight feel-good sunglasses that are in line with Lizzo’s unapologetic style and Quay’s best-selling frames. As with Quay’s past collabs, the sunnies will be affordably priced, starting at $55.

“Quay is different from other eyewear brands out there. They’re cool and fresh, but also inclusive and attainable,” said Lizzo in a statement. “Their message of confidence and self-expression is something that I believe in and can stand behind.”

The brand and Lizzo partnered with Feeding America on its “buy one, get one, give 100 meals” program. From May 20 to 25, fans can buy any pair of Quay frames online and get a complimentary pair of their choice. Happy 32nd Birthday Lizzo – and welcome to Lizzo.org!

welcome

Hello and welcome to Lovely Lizzo – Lizzo.org, the ultimate online resource for fans of Lizzo! I’ve been a fan of Lizzo’s since hearing the song ‘Truth Hurts’ in the Netflix film Something Great – and when I discovered that this domain was available I set about building what I hope will become a great website.

So far I’ve added several thousand images to the gallery and built a lot of interesting content pages. My personal favorite page is the quotes page, which features things Lizzo has said in interviews. I find her opinions inspiring and eye-opening. I hope the gallery is easy to navigate. There are more than 140 photoshoot images, plus digital magazine scans, images from events and lots, lots more!

In the next few days I will be adding more images to the gallery – at present there are not many from last year and I’ll be working to change that as soon as possible. I’m also working on a video archive and a lyrics area – but these will take some time and it was important for me to open the site today as it is Lizzo’s 32nd birthday.

My thanks go to Rayane, Maria, Jen, Vicki and Jay for their help with getting the site this far.

Please enjoy browsing the site and please consider following us on Twitter – while your there, don’t forget to wish Lizzo a happy birthday!
